There’s a list on my desk with all the things that want doing. I’ve been sorting that list through all day long. First I thought of getting on with what was most urgent. But since a lot of things seemed urgent to the same degree, I couldn’t decide and remained just confused.

Next thing I sorted the tasks depending on who would benefit from them. I aimed to start off with the one, that would please the person the most, which it was done for. The great majority of tasks, though, was for people I didn’t know. That’s why I struggled to find out how pleased they would be and gave up on working with this kind of sorting system.

After that I thought, why not start with a job, that's easy to do. Have one done, one success and then work my way up to the slightly trickier ones. I was on and about to set off, when doubts overcame me - whispering into my ear to commence with a larger one after all, instead of leaving them big boys for when all energy was already sucked up by the chicks.

I did then turn round to face a big job but got all the more frustrated and demotivated by the sheer look of it. That's why I decided to give myself a rest before doing anything at all.

Sitting there, I gazed at my defeat and eventually got the idea, that this might have all been wrong. What life wanted me to do, was to first solve the particular task, that stopped me from doing all the others. And this one wasn't even on my list.

Slowly I crept to the phone and dialled one number after the other. The tooting nearly drowned my heart beat, but eventually we talked.

That was about an hour ago and finishing this article, I can tick off another task on my way to the bottom of that list.
